Pourquoi ?

(free translation from French) March 2020, beginning of the online residency on the Patreon platform of Galerie Galerie. March 2020, *surprise*, the pandemic arrives in Quebec: beginning of severe confinement. Living alone in Montreal, telling myself that this was going to be my life for the next few weeks, the world crises inspired me to create a Quebec mansion because everyone and I were going to be locked up in our homes, in our cities, closed borders. In the meantime, I told myself that there were as many different Quebecers as there are people living there, no matter how people identify themselves, we're all here now. Every day, we wake up here, every day, we build our lives here, every day: we exist here. The mansion is an allegory about living and letting the people of the territory live, but in the end, it should be universal.

Comment ?

(free translation from French) With the graphic elements of the flag (colors, fleur de lys, etc.), I decided to build the mansion with a very "Quebec" image, but honestly, it's really more aesthetic than symbolic. "Le manoir québécois" is not a tribute to Quebec, it is a place where I allowed myself to be free. Let's be honest, it wasn't particularly difficult for me to do so, it's just a video after all. But when you think about it, doing what I want and being who I am in the physical world is not that difficult neither as I'm part of the majority of the demographics of Quebec. At first glance, people find it easier to "live it and let it be" with me as I seem to be part of the scenery, but I find it unfortunately absurd and unfair. If everyone had the chance to be who they want to be, society would probably be more progressive. So please everyone, let people be, there is not one model of Quebecers, there are more than 8,000,000, and there are also those who were there before Quebec existed who definitely deserve more respect.

PS: the narration is in English as the narrator was more comfortable in that language, live and let live lol.
